Derek's ideal home

Meet Derek, our beautiful 3-year old Chihuahua looking for his special home. Derek is looking for a home where there are no other pets or children, as since having his patella surgery, he needs a calm and quiet home.
Derek is an affectionate little man looking for loving adopters. He is a sweet, sensitive dog that bonds deeply with his people and once he trusts you, he is incredibly loving and loyal. He loves nothing more than spending time with the people he loves most!
Derek can be worried by new people initially, so adopters that are gentle and patient; willing to let him come to them, would be perfect. He can be overwhelmed by busy environments, so he will need some continued confidence building in his new home.
He's currently spending his recovery in one of our fantastic foster homes, where he continues to lap up all of the home comforts he so needs. He loves getting out and about for quiet, sniffy walks where he can take his time and take in all the sights and smells. He would like to avoid busy areas with heavy traffic as he can be quite worried by this.
Derek's foster parents say he's the most cuddly, affectionate dog once he's built that bond with you and feels safe being close to his people. He can be overwhelmed by visitors, so may need slow introductions to any regular visitors to his potential home.
Due to being on restricted exercise during his recovery from surgery, he hasn't mixed with many dogs so he will need some continued socialisation in the new home. He walks nicely with calm dogs, can can be a bit worried initially.

Could you be Derek's perfect match?

Derek is such a gorgeous, sweet little soul who is so excited to find his way into his adopters hearts and jumpers. He is looking for a quiet, calm environment where he can build his confidence up over time. Any time left alone would also need to be built up, as he finds being apart from his people quite upsetting.
He will be looking for a home whereby he won't be taken for hikes, as his recent patella surgery means he will be needing a lower exercise level.
Derek is fully housetrained, but may need just a bit of reminding in a new environment. He can be a bit worried initially by new people and handling, so he is learning that vet visits aren't so scary. He is currently needing to wear a muzzle for anything more extensive than easy, gentle checks in the vet, so this will need a little bit of work. But once he has built trust with his people and with his potential vets, we think he will tolerate this well.
We cannot wait to see this handsome man in his forever home, cuddled up on the sofa with his people as he so deserves!!
