About This Dog for Adoption

Sweetpea's ideal home

Sweetpea is exactly as her name suggests… a real sweetie! Aged approximately 10-years-old, this adorable Chihuahua can be shy at first, but once she warms up to you, she has so much love to offer. A little more wary around the male population, Sweetpea would prefer if there is at least one female member of the family and needs to live in an adult-only home. She’d also enjoy living with adopters who won’t need to leave her alone for long periods of time, especially in the initial stages while she gets used to her new routine. Sweetpea’s ideal setup? Somewhere calm and peaceful, with minimal steps to contend with, and where there is enough space for her crate (where she likes to retreat to, to feel safe) and a few different bedding options. Sweetpea has lived with both dogs and cats in the past. She seems to build confidence when sharing her space with a friendly canine, and would likely benefit from living with a calm, small to medium-sized dog, pending successful introductions at the centre.

Could you be Sweetpea's perfect match?

Ultimately, little Sweetpea is looking for a patient and understanding home, where she can settle in and build confidence at her own pace, without too much pressure or expectation. Once she trusts you, Sweetpea is an incredibly loving lady who will love nothing more than spending time cuddled up on your lap. She prefers the quieter side of life— short potters in peaceful and grassy areas, snoozing the day away on a cozy bed, and tucking into a tasty meal. Her potential adopters should be cautious not to over-feed her, as does need some support with losing some weight to keep her feeling her best.

Chihuahua Puppy Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Chihuahua.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Chihuahua Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
