About This Dog

Welhard's ideal home

Welhard is a 5-year-old Chihuahua who has lived a very sheltered life and, as a result, finds new experiences worrying. He is currently learning to walk on a lead and can be very much on high alert when out and about. Welhard is fearful of contact and will need time, patience and understanding to build his confidence and learn that he is safe with his new family. He can be vocal when meeting new people, but this is fear-based rather than unfriendly. Given time, he will approach gently to take treats and begin to form a bond. He is also very worried around other dogs and will generally choose to avoid them.

Could you be Welhard's perfect match?

Welhard would suit a calm, patient family who understand his nervous nature and are willing to help him progress at his own pace. He could potentially live with older secondary school-aged children who can respect his boundaries and never pressure him for attention. His new family will need to be prepared to support him with housetraining, lead walking and confidence building. Most importantly, potential adopters will need to visit the centre numerous times before taking Welhard home, allowing him to gradually build trust and develop a relationship with them. With the right understanding, patience and commitment, Welhard has the potential to become a much more confident and happy little companion.
